Matches: Implement CRUD operations and filtering - #126
Adds match management endpoints under /api/match, covering admin CRUD and a filterable list of matches.
Admin endpoints:
POST /api/match creates a match.
GET /api/match/{id} retrieves a match.
PATCH /api/match/{id} partially updates a match's members and/or cycle.
PATCH /api/match/{id}/status sets the match status.
PATCH /api/match/{id}/score sets the match score.
DELETE /api/match/{id} deletes a match and returns the deleted record.
Create validation:
Member A, Member B, and the match cycle ID are required.
The two members must be different.
Both members must exist and be active.
The match cycle must exist.
New matches always start with a score of 0.0 and a status of PENDING.
Update behavior:
Only the fields provided are changed, and each provided member or cycle is checked to exist.
A request with no fields returns the match unchanged without saving.
An update that would leave both slots with the same member is rejected, including when only one side is changed.
List endpoint (GET /api/match):
Optional filters are startTime, endTime, period, memberId (matches either side), matchCycleId, memberIndustry (case-insensitive, matches either member), and status.
Results are ordered by creation date, newest first.
Each item is a new MatchListItemResponse that includes the cycle period and both members' full names.
filterMatches now joins match_cycles and members to supply those fields, and returns MatchListItem instead of Match.
startTime and endTime are bound as UTC OffsetDateTime values.
Match status enum:
Match status was a free-form String. It is now a MatchStatus enum (PENDING, CONFIRMED, COMPLETED, CANCELLED, SKIPPED).
The enum is used in the Match model, MatchRepo.setMatchStatus, MatchFilterCriteria, and the request and response DTOs.
MatchSqlRepo writes the enum name to the status column and reads it back with MatchStatus.valueOf. Any existing rows must therefore hold uppercase values matching the enum names, or reads will fail.
Unknown status values in request bodies or query params return a 400.
Errors:
New MatchNotFoundException, mapped to a 404 in ApiExceptionHandler.
Known follow-ups:
The list endpoint accepts page (default 1) and pageSize (default 25, max 100) and documents them as pagination, but they are not passed to MatchFilterCriteria or the query. All matching rows are currently returned.
matchScore and status on CreateMatchRequest are accepted but ignored at creation.
Testing
Added MatchServiceTest with mocked repos covering:
Create: the success path, null IDs, identical members, a missing member, an inactive member, and a missing cycle.
Update: full, partial, and empty updates, a missing match, a missing member, and both self-match cases.
Get, delete, and the status/score setters: the success and not-found cases.
Added MatchControllerTest (@WebMvcTest) covering:
Responses: status codes and response bodies for every endpoint.
Errors: 400 for missing required fields, invalid UUIDs, and unknown statuses, and 404 for missing matches, members, and cycles.
List: every query param is passed through to the filter criteria.
Rewrote MatchSqlRepoTest as a @SpringBootTest with @Transactional rollback against a real database instead of mocked JdbcClient calls, so it needs a database available. It covers:
CRUD and setters: create, get, update, delete, setMatchStatus, and setMatchScore, including the not-found cases.
Filtering: by period, status, member on either side, case-insensitive industry, and time range.

Need @spiffyy99 to confirm this thought: might want to return a boolean type instead of MatchResponse as deletion of a match would signify a mistake and would not ever need that data to be returned.

This will require us to make changes to the match repos as well, but shouldn't we just have the names in the match table itself? The names are pretty integral here.

updateMatch runs the create-time validation on the merged match, including the "both members must be active" check, even for members the request did not touch.
If either existing member has since been deactivated, an admin cannot change only the cycle, or fix the other member. The request fails with ValidationException (400), although the spec says only provided members and cycles are checked for existence.
Validate existence only for the fields supplied in the request, and keep the active-member check for create or for newly supplied members. Keep the same-member check on the merged values.
if (request.memberAId() != null) memberRepo.getMemberById(request.memberAId()).orElseThrow(...);
if (request.memberBId() != null) memberRepo.getMemberById(request.memberBId()).orElseThrow(...);
if (request.matchCycleId() != null) matchCycleRepo.getMatchCycleById(request.matchCycleId()).orElseThrow(...);
if (match.getMemberAId().equals(match.getMemberBId())) thrownewValidationException(...);
Adds an admin-protected match API for creating, updating, retrieving, deleting, and filtering matches. The changes add typed match statuses, paginated SQL filtering, service validation, error handling, database-backed tests, and matching algorithm fixtures.

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to 3295c
Confirm existing match statuses are compatible and reject invalid scores before merging. The create request and response schema also need to reflect their actual behavior.
Security architecture risk: Moderate · up to 3295c
Match operations are restricted to administrators outside development. However, partial edits can undo concurrent lifecycle changes, and the stricter status representation may reject existing records. Deployment profile isolation and stored-data compatibility remain unverified.
Retained concerns
Medium · reliability · inferred: A partial member or cycle update reads the whole match and later writes its score and status as well. A concurrent status change, such as cancellation, can commit between those steps and then be silently reverted by the stale partial update. Although the full-row repository operation predates this PR, the new HTTP workflow exposes this cross-field ownership failure. Individual SQL statement atomicity does not protect the read-modify-write sequence.
Medium · reliability · inferred: The new reader uses case-sensitive MatchStatus.valueOf for every non-null stored status, replacing a reader that accepted arbitrary text. The database still permits arbitrary TEXT, and the PR includes no migration to bridge that contract. Any existing differently cased or unknown value can therefore make by-ID reads and affected list pages fail after rollout. This is a conditional compatibility and recovery risk, not evidence that incompatible production rows exist.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — In the non-dev configuration, administrator access grants match-wide management rather than access limited to the caller's own matches. Queries use supplied record identifiers and filters without a current-member restriction, and responses include both participants' names. The evidenced scope is the application's configured match, member, and cycle tables; broader tenant or environment exposure is not established.
Security Findings and Attack Paths
inferred — If a deployment exposes the application with the dev profile active, the new match endpoints inherit its permit-all authorization policy. Anonymous reads and mutations satisfying the separate CSRF requirements would then be reachable. The permissive policy predates this PR, but these operations are new; deployed profile selection and isolation were not established, so this is not a verified production attack path.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The non-dev filter chain requires ROLE_ADMIN for both /api/match and every subpath before the general permit-all fallback. Match mutations are not CSRF-exempt. Security wiring tests exercise real sign-in role derivation and representative anonymous, non-admin, and admin requests, but not every match operation or production session persistence.
observed — Match SQL uses fixed query fragments and binds request-derived values as parameters, including textual filters and pagination. The criteria constructor independently enforces the 100-record page-size ceiling.
Hardening Proposals
proposed — Enforce that deployments connected to sensitive member or match data cannot activate the permissive dev security profile. This would contain the newly added lifecycle authority if deployment configuration drifts.

Remove unused detail projections and write-side joins.
parseResultSetToMatch reads only matches columns. MatchService.toResponse loads member and cycle details separately. The write methods therefore perform three unnecessary joins and return five unused columns on every create, update, status, score, and delete operation.
Use direct RETURNING * for the write statements and remove SELECT_WRITTEN_MATCH. Keep the joins for filterMatches, which uses c.period and member industry predicates. getMatchById also inherits these joins through SELECT_MATCHES, so remove them there only with a separate no-join select.

Return fresh model instances from the fixture accessors.
members(), activeMembers(), matchCycles(), and matches() expose mutable model instances stored in static lists. A test that changes a returned member, cycle, or match can affect later calls in the same JVM. No current test caller or reset logic was found, so this is a test-isolation risk rather than a demonstrated major failure. Build fresh model instances for each accessor call before tests mutate these fixtures.

Enforce the stored status values before using MatchStatus.valueOf.
matches.status is an unrestricted TEXT column. MatchSqlRepo parses every non-null value with MatchStatus.valueOf(status). If an existing row contains pending or another value that is not an enum name, match reads can throw IllegalArgumentException.
Add a migration or equivalent data validation for existing values and enforce the allowed uppercase names. Confirm that every match-status writer uses those names.

Remove matchScore and status from CreateMatchRequest.
MatchService.createMatch ignores both fields and creates every match with score 0.0 and status PENDING. The endpoint therefore accepts client input that it does not apply. Since creation must use these defaults, remove the fields instead of applying them. Update the MatchServiceTest constructor calls to use the three-argument record.

Remove nullable = true from memberAId.
memberAId is the only ID field marked nullable. MatchSqlRepo.parseResultSetToMatch calls UUID.fromString(rs.getString(MEMBER_A_ID)). That call throws on null, and the inner join to members excludes rows without a member. The response never carries a null memberAId. Generated API clients will see a wrong type.

@NotNull permits negative and arbitrarily large Double values. PATCH /api/match/{id}/score passes these values directly to PostgreSQL’s single-precision REAL column. A value such as 1e300 can fail during the database conversion, and ApiExceptionHandler does not map JDBC failures to a client error.
Add @DecimalMin and @DecimalMax using the matching algorithm’s actual score bounds. Do not use the storage type’s limits as the algorithm bounds.
