test: block all network access in unit tests - #478
Conversation
Ten login tests in TestLoginMFA patch only the widget strategy, so the mobile strategies ran for real: every full test run sent about 40 login POSTs with fake credentials to sso.garmin.com/mobile/api/login (30 via curl_cffi, which the VCR setup does not intercept, and 10 via requests), plus a token request to diauth.garmin.com, all from the developer's IP. An autouse fixture now fails any network access from tests not marked integration: requests at the transport adapter (tests that patch Session.request keep working), curl_cffi sessions and raw sockets. test_no_network.py checks the block for both HTTP libraries and for an unpatched login.
WalkthroughThe test configuration now blocks selected network calls outside integration tests. New tests check the Requests and optional curl_cffi blocks, and verify that selected Garmin login strategies cannot reach the network. ChangesNetwork test guard

Report the blocked URL.
Requests passes self and a PreparedRequest to HTTPAdapter.send, so refuse reports "?". The client’s curl_cffi path calls sess.request(method, url, ...) positionally, so refuse reports the method, such as "GET", instead of the URL. The tests match only the BLOCKED prefix, so they do not detect either incorrect target. Use API-specific wrappers that read request.url for Requests and url for curl_cffi.

Every full run of the unit tests was sending real login requests to Garmin from the developer's IP.
Ten tests in
TestLoginMFApatch only the widget strategy, so the mobile strategies ran for real. Logged with the network blocked, one run ofpytest tests/attempted:POST sso.garmin.com/mobile/api/loginvia curl_cffi, which the VCR setup does not intercept;requests;POST diauth.garmin.com/di-oauth2-service/oauth/token.They all used fake credentials (
e@x.com/pw), and they count against the IP's Cloudflare limits. This is a likely contributor to the sso.garmin.com rate-limit ban (Cloudflare 1015) seen on the maintainer's network.Change
An autouse fixture in
tests/conftest.pyfails any network access from tests not markedintegration:requests, blocked atHTTPAdapter.send, so tests that patchSession.requestkeep working; The error names the URL, so a test that would have gone online fails loudly instead of quietly hitting Garmin.
tests/test_no_network.pychecks the block for both HTTP libraries and for an unpatched login. With the fixture, a full run makes 0 socket connections (checked with a socket logger). All 633 tests pass, and ruff and mypy are clean.
