Input devices issues on Linux

Based on my personal experience, linux distros has some issues on keyboard and mouse when installing and using it on laptop.

I dealt keyboard issues on my Ubuntu. Once it's on sleep or suspended, the keyboard wont work anymore. I had to either reboot or suspend the screen again.

Glad that I found a total fix.

This guide is tested on Linux Mint and Ubuntu. My device is an e559 laptop.

For new installation. Boot to the GRUB menu first.

  1. Highlight the normal mode of your distro.
  2. Press 'e' to edit boot parameters.
  3. Find the line that starts with:
linux /casper/vmlinuz
  1. At the end of that line (after quite splash), add this:
usbcore.old_scheme_first=1

Make sure there's a space before it.

  1. Press F10 to boot with that change and continue the installation.

For already installed.

  1. Open the GRUB config.
sudo nano /etc/default/grub
  1. Find the line:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
  1. Add this inside the quotes (keep existing ones):
usbcore.autosuspend=-1 i8042.reset i8042.nomux

It should look like this:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash usbcore.autosuspend=-1 i8042.reset i8042.nomux"
  1. update GRUB
sudo update-grub
  1. Reboot and when your system starts again, it should reinitialize your keyboard without needing to go to sleep first.

Let me know if this works to you and any feedback will be highly appreciated.
