fix(editor): keep crop preview ratio and Done visible - #1178
The preview always preserves the source video's aspect ratio.
The Done button stays visible without scrolling, even at the editor's minimum window size.
The preview was previously sized with w-full + aspect-ratio + max-height. When height was clamped, the width stayed fixed, so the canvas stretched — portrait recordings appeared roughly square. It is now fitted inside the stage with container-query units, and video metadata changes are tracked so late dimension updates are applied.
The dialog now uses a bounded flex column with a shrink-proof header and footer. The crop stage takes the remaining space instead of making the whole modal scroll.
Motivation
At 1280×600 the old layout both distorted the preview and pushed Done below the fold, making crop adjustments unreliable — especially for portrait sources. The editor's minimum desktop size is 800×600, so this is reachable in normal use.

No existing issue or PR covers this exact bug. PR #732 adds crop-ratio presets and hides the scrollbar track, but does not fix preview distortion or pin Done above the fold.
Testing Guide
npm ci
npx playwright install chromium
npx playwright test tests/ui/crop-dialog.spec.ts
The new spec opens the editor at 1280×600 with landscape (640×360) and portrait (180×320) fixtures. It asserts:
the Done button is in the viewport,
the crop canvas ratio matches the source video,
the dialog's scrollHeight does not exceed its clientHeight.
Manual check:
Open a recording in the editor.
Click Crop Video.
Resize the window down to roughly 1280×600.
Confirm the preview is not stretched and Done remains visible.
Checklist
I have performed a self-review of my code.
Playwright regression coverage added for landscape and portrait sources.
npm run typecheck and Biome lint/format pass.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
The crop editor now matches the video’s dimensions, preserving the correct aspect ratio for portrait and landscape videos. If video dimensions are unavailable, it uses a 16:9 fallback.
The crop canvas updates its proportions when video dimensions become available or change.
The crop dialog adjusts to fit shorter editor windows, keeping its header, controls, and buttons accessible without vertical overflow.
Size the crop preview as a fitted box so it always keeps the source video's aspect ratio instead of stretching when height-constrained. Track metadata changes so late-loading video dimensions are respected.
Give the dialog a bounded flex-column layout with a shrink-proof footer, keeping the Done button visible without scrolling in short windows. Add landscape and portrait Playwright coverage at the editor's 1280x600 minimum height.
The crop editor derives the aspect ratio and canvas dimensions from video dimensions. The dialog uses a bounded flex layout. UI tests check landscape and portrait videos across viewports and verify updated dimensions after metadata loads.

Summary
Video ratio and crop sizing src/components/video-editor/CropControl.tsx
CropControl derives the aspect ratio from valid video dimensions, with a 16:9 fallback. It updates the ratio on metadata-load and resize events, synchronizes canvas dimensions during drawing, and sizes the crop area based on the ratio and available container space.
Dialog layout and UI coverage src/components/video-editor/layout/CropEditorDialog.tsx, src/components/video-editor/layout/EditorShell.tsx, tests/ui/crop-dialog.spec.ts
CropEditorDialog no longer accepts or passes an aspect ratio. Its layout uses a fixed-height flex column. Playwright tests check canvas aspect ratio, dialog visibility, and vertical overflow for landscape and portrait videos, including after video dimensions change.
No current crop-dialog failure was identified. Testing the actual minimum window’s content area would improve coverage.

CodeRabbit review on webadderallorg#1178: toBeInViewport() defaults to ratio 0, so a partially clipped Done button passed. Assert ratio 1, and also check the button box and dialog bounds against the window so a dialog overflowing the viewport fails instead of relying on internal scrollHeight alone.
The minimum-window fit tests do not measure the Electron content area.
The minimum desktop case sets the renderer viewport to 800×600 with page.setViewportSize. Electron's minWidth: 800 and minHeight: 600 apply to the outer window. Native title bar and borders reduce the client area. A clipping regression that appears only at the real client height can pass the new fit assertions. Treat this as a test-coverage gap. The current layout is not shown to fail.
Suggested direction: measure the client-area height at the minimum window, for example with getContentSize() or window.innerHeight on each platform. Then add a viewport at that measured height to VIEWPORTS. Do not use an estimated height without measurement.
