Summary

Fixes the high-severity vulnerability warning in the build by pinning System.Security.Cryptography.Pkcs to the patched 10.0.13.

Details

  • Advisories: GHSA-846f-f764-76mx (CVE-2026-84008, high) and GHSA-2fmv-rv2c-59x7 (CVE-2026-70162, moderate). Both are .NET denial-of-service issues, fixed in 10.0.13.
  • How it got here: the package was only a transitive dependency. Microsoft.Data.SqlClient 6.1.6 (through EF Core SqlServer) brought in 9.0.11, and Microsoft.Identity.Web.TokenCache 4.14.2 brought in 10.0.10.
  • Change: one direct PackageReference in IdentityFlow.Data. NuGet uses the nearest declared version, so it overrides the transitive ones for Functions, Web and the Data tests, which all depend on the Data project. Being a direct dependency, Dependabot now also tracks it.

Verification

  • dotnet list package --vulnerable --include-transitive: all nine projects report no vulnerable packages (before: Data, Functions, Web and Data.Tests were flagged).
  • Debug build: 0 warnings, 0 errors (before: eight NU1902/NU1903 warnings).
  • Tests: 36 passed, 0 failed. dotnet format --verify-no-changes is clean.

This is a denial-of-service class issue, so the practical risk depends on whether untrusted PKCS data reaches these libraries, which I did not assess. Pinning is the low-risk way to clear it either way.

Two denial-of-service advisories (GHSA-846f-f764-76mx, high, and
GHSA-2fmv-rv2c-59x7, moderate) affect System.Security.Cryptography.Pkcs
9.0.11 and 10.0.10, which restore picked up transitively through
Microsoft.Data.SqlClient (via EF Core SqlServer) and
Microsoft.Identity.Web.TokenCache. Both are fixed in 10.0.13.

A direct reference in the Data project overrides the transitive versions for
every project that depends on it (Functions, Web and the Data tests). The
build previously reported eight NU1902/NU1903 warnings and now reports none.
