fix(types): read and write timestamps as epoch microseconds - #133
Conversation
The server now sends a TIMESTAMP as signed epoch microseconds. A
timestamp used to decode to a {"wall_time", "logical"} dict that nothing
could write back, unlike the embedded client, which returns an int.
- Timestamp, an int subclass, decodes the value and re-encodes as a
timestamp, so a read-modify-write keeps the property type.
- An aware datetime encodes as a timestamp; a naive one is refused.
- Timestamp.to_datetime / from_datetime convert exactly.
- Move the proto submodule to the signed Timestamp message.
Closes #132

[High impact] Updates server version and timestamp serialization format. The default constraint-creation deadline issue should be fixed before merging because schema setup can report failure while its build continues. Findings

- A list holding timestamps was taken for a vector, because Timestamp is an int: it went out as floats, another wire type, with microseconds lost to the float's mantissa. Timestamp is excluded from the vector path the way bool is. - The embedded client stored a Timestamp as an integer, refused an aware datetime, and read a stored timestamp back as a plain int. It now carries a Timestamp tag like MultiVector and Path (re-used from `coordinode` when installed): a tagged value or an aware datetime is stored as a timestamp, a naive datetime is refused, and a timestamp reads back tagged. - Direct tests of Timestamp.from_datetime at and around the epoch. Regression tests cover a list of timestamps written back, and a datetime through the embedded client read and written back.
Main moved the embedded bindings to pyo3 0.29: the timestamp and datetime class cells now use PyOnceLock like the other tag cells.
Since 0.7.2 the server validates a unique or node-key constraint in an index build and holds CreateConstraint only up to the request's wait. When the wait runs out it returns the constraint VALIDATING with the build still running. The docstring promised a validated constraint on return, and a server default longer than the client timeout ended the call with DEADLINE_EXCEEDED while the server went on to create the constraint. - create_constraint() takes wait, in seconds; None keeps the server's default and 0 returns once the build is admitted. The call's deadline is extended by the wait. - ConstraintInfo reports build_operation and build_state. Regression tests: test_wait_is_sent_and_extends_the_deadline, test_zero_wait_is_sent_rather_than_dropped, test_negative_wait_raises, test_validating_constraint_reports_its_build.
0.7.2 is the first server release that sends a TIMESTAMP property as signed epoch microseconds, the form this client now reads. - The integration job, the demo stack and the quick-start compose file run the 0.7.2 server image, pinned by its digest. - The embedded engine builds from the v0.7.2 sources; Cargo.lock is refreshed for them. - The README, the demo README and the 0.5 notebook name 0.7.2 as the minimum server. - The demo image takes the uv 0.13.1 and scipy-notebook python-3.13.16 base images.

Both packages ship from this repository at one version, so the embedded package takes the shared tags from coordinode together or defines its own.

Summary
The server now sends a TIMESTAMP property as
Timestamp { int64 unix_micros }: signed microseconds since the Unix epoch, negative before 1970. The client decoded the old wire shape into a{"wall_time", "logical"}dict that nothing could write back. CoordiNode 0.7.2 is the first release that sends the new shape, so this client now requires it.coordinode.Timestamp, anintsubclass holding epoch microseconds, is what a timestamp now decodes to. It matches the embedded client's integer, and it re-encodes astimestamp_value, so a read-modify-write keeps the property type. A plainintstill encodes asint_value.datetimeencodes as a timestamp; a naive one raisesValueError, since it names no instant.Timestamp.to_datetime()andTimestamp.from_datetime()convert exactly, using integer arithmetic.create_constraint

The wait is always sent, since the server's own default (60 s on 0.7.2, operator-tunable) can exceed the client's deadline, and the call's deadline is extended by it.ConstraintInforeportsbuild_operationandbuild_state.Demo image
The two Docker base-image updates Dependabot cannot auto-merge are folded in: uv 0.13.1 (#141) and scipy-notebook python-3.13.16 (#136).
