AI summary

A new PR CI workflow (.github/workflows/pr.yaml) runs on every pull request to develop and runs only what the diff affects, on Linux, with escalation tiers for the expensive jobs. fw-lite.yaml keeps running on PRs for now (shadow phase); cutting it over to develop-only and making PR CI result a required check is a later PR.

How it decides what to run. nx with the official @nx/dotnet plugin sits at the repo root, graph-only (nothing builds or caches through nx). .github/scripts/affected.sh prints one JSON object with the affected .NET projects, viewer/extension booleans, an everything flag for shared-file changes (props, global.json, solution files, lockfiles) and the escalation tiers; task ci:affected gives the same answer locally. Any detector failure means everything is affected, with a warning annotation. The viewer and the Platform.Bible extension are nx projects via one project.json each; the tiers are tier-* pseudo-projects under .github/ci-tiers/ whose project.json holds the path rule (see the README there).

Jobs. detect; dotnet (builds FwLiteCore.slnf whole so the EF-model and generated-TS checks stay unconditional, then tests only the affected test projects via a generated FwLiteAffectedTests.slnf, Category!=Slow&Category!=Benchmark); viewer-checks (i18n drift, viewer-only svelte-check and eslint, prettier, vitest on Chromium only, vite build) and viewer-ui-tests (Playwright, Chromium; ci:webkit adds WebKit) as two jobs so wall clock is the max; extension-lint; escalations slow-tests, maui-windows, apple, android, e2e (compile and test only, no packaging or signing); summary (PR CI result). A ci:<tier> label pulls a tier in (ci:full = all) and re-triggers the run.

Also in this PR. Category=Slow on the tests that dominate the two slowest assemblies (Sena3SyncTests as a class, both CanSyncRandomEntries theories, BulkCreateEntriesPerformance, GetEntryIndex_LargeList_ReturnsCorrectIndex); task fw-lite:test-verified fixed (it always exited 1); develop-ui.yaml no longer triggers on viewer-only changes; a VITEST_CHROMIUM_ONLY switch in the viewer's vitest config; a root npm Dependabot group for nx/@nx/dotnet; .github/AGENTS.md documents the PR tier.

Footprint of the nx root. Root package.json, pnpm-lock.yaml and a settings-only pnpm-workspace.yaml (the frontend/ workspace stays where it is and is unaffected), nx.json, three project.json files plus seven tier folders, .nx/ and the root node_modules ignored.

Test plan

  • actionlint clean on pr.yaml and develop-ui.yaml (done locally)
  • task ci:affected matches the detect job's answer for this PR's diff
  • Docs-only commit on this branch: only detect and PR CI result run
  • One-project .NET change (e.g. backend/FwLite/LcmCrdt/): dotnet runs the affected test projects; slow-tests and e2e tiers fire
  • Viewer-only change: viewer-checks and viewer-ui-tests only
  • ci:full label: every job runs, including the escalations
  • Wall clock per case recorded against the 10-minute target

Adds an Nx root (package.json, settings-only pnpm-workspace.yaml, lockfile,
nx.json) with @nx/dotnet, a project.json for frontend/viewer, and
.github/scripts/affected.sh behind `task ci:affected`, which prints one JSON
object of affected .NET projects, viewer/extension/everything flags and a
fallback reason. Builds and tests still run through dotnet and pnpm.

The affected script no longer keeps any globs: shared files reach the viewer
and the Platform.Bible extension through a never-run `ci-affected` target with
`default` inputs, the extension becomes an nx project, and escalation tiers
become `tier-<name>` pseudo-projects under .github/ci-tiers/ with `inputs`
globs (or `implicitDependencies`) as their rules. The script reports tier names
as `tiers`, drops them when everything is affected, and computes `everything`
from the full project list.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
pr.yaml runs on every pull request to develop. `detect` asks the nx graph
what the diff touches (.github/scripts/affected.sh, same answer as
`task ci:affected`), merges `ci:<tier>` labels, and the other jobs run only
for what is affected: .NET build of FwLiteCore.slnf with tests on the affected
test projects (generated FwLiteAffectedTests.slnf, Category!=Slow), viewer
checks and Playwright on Chromium, extension lint; slow-tests, maui-windows,
apple, android and e2e are escalations. `PR CI result` is the summary check.

Also: NX_DAEMON=false in CI, a root npm Dependabot group for nx, a
VITEST_CHROMIUM_ONLY switch for the vitest browser projects, and
develop-ui.yaml no longer triggers on viewer-only changes. fw-lite.yaml keeps
running on PRs for the shadow phase.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Category=Slow now covers Sena3SyncTests (class level, replacing its two
method tags), both CanSyncRandomEntries theories, BulkCreateEntriesPerformance
and GetEntryIndex_LargeList_ReturnsCorrectIndex: about 800 of the 1430 summed
seconds in the two slowest assemblies. The PR tier filters them out and the
slow-tests job runs them in parallel.

task fw-lite:test-verified used FwLiteOnly.slnf with --framework net10.0,
which the MAUI test project rejects, so it always exited 1; it now runs
FwLiteCore.slnf without the framework switch.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Workflow tables gain pr.yaml, develop-ui.yaml's narrowed trigger is noted, and
a PR tier section explains affected detection, the .NET test selection, the
viewer jobs, the escalation tiers and labels, and why dotnet-affected lost the
bake-off.

Walkthrough

Adds Nx-based affected-project detection and a new pull-request workflow that selects .NET, viewer, extension, and platform checks from affected projects and CI tiers. Adds scripts for detection and filtered test solutions, classifies selected tests as slow, and updates frontend workflow configuration.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title "Add a PR CI workflow that runs only the affected FW Lite checks" matches the main change. The PR adds .github/workflows/pr.yaml, a pull-request CI workflow that uses Nx affected-project detection (.github/scripts/affected.sh) to run only the affected checks, with escalation tiers under .github/ci-tiers/. The title is specific and concise. It does not mention the secondary changes, such as the slow-test tags, the task fw-lite:test-verified fix, and the develop-ui.yaml trigger change. The description says those are expected in a single PR and the title does not need to cover every detail.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description matches the changeset. It describes the new PR CI workflow (.github/workflows/pr.yaml) and the Nx root setup (nx.json, package.json, pnpm-workspace.yaml). It also covers .github/scripts/affected.sh, the ci-tiers project.json files, the Category=Slow test tags, the develop-ui.yaml trigger change, the VITEST_CHROMIUM_ONLY switch, and the Dependabot group. The description is detailed and specific to the diff.

affected.sh dropped every tier whenever `everything` was true, which also
swallowed `full` (the PR workflow file changed), so the PR that adds pr.yaml
escalated to nothing. `full` is now exempt: shared files still never pull in
the other tiers.

right now this would keep our normal CI and this new CI running. I suggest we disable the old CI before we merge this.

develop-ui.yaml no longer runs on viewer-only changes, and its check-and-lint
job was the only existing CI running svelte-check and eslint on the viewer.
Keep the one viewer file the lexbox UI imports (icon-class.ts) in its paths.

affected.sh no longer discards nx's stderr, so a detection fallback can be
diagnosed from the log. pr.yaml always falls back to all FW Lite test
projects when none are affected, so a ci:slow-tests label on a PR with no
.NET change no longer fails in write-test-slnf.mjs.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- affected.sh asks nx for tiers on the diff without nx.json, the root
package.json and lockfiles. nx marks every tier for those, so an nx bump
escalated to all tiers, while the old `!everything` filter dropped tiers a
path rule fired alongside a shared-file change.
- slow-tests also fires for the test projects holding Slow tests and for
  MiniLcm/SyncHelpers; e2e for the viewer's e2e tests and setup-k8s.
- sharedGlobals cover the CI helpers the jobs run (write-test-slnf.mjs,
  backend/FwLite/Taskfile.yml and scripts).
- The viewer and extension nx inputs include the files they import from
  outside their roots.
- A ci:webkit label runs the viewer UI tests even when the viewer is not
  affected.

The extension's prettier (100-column limit from its .editorconfig) wants the
nx `inputs` array on one line, and the viewer-side pre-commit hook ignores
that directory, so this was failing the extension lint in both workflows.

The PR tier's e2e job also leaves out fw-lite.yaml's "Test FwLite launcher"
step on purpose; the job comment now says so.
