What changes are you trying to make? (e.g. Adding or removing code, refactoring existing code, adding reports)
I added code to the assignment_script.sh to created an automated file organization workflow. In this workflow, I refined my file organization (i.e., created new folders), and move specific files into specific folders. I also removed sensitive data and created a text file to show this file organization structure.
What did you learn from the changes you have made?
I learned how to use shell to automate processes related to data organization, how to select large amounts of files with specific strings and move/copy them in the same line of code, how to comment things out, how to pull/push commits, and handle merge conflicts..
Was there another approach you were thinking about making? If so, what approach(es) were you thinking of?
I did have another approach that I was thinking of making for when I wanted to move files from another folder to a new one. I was initially going to use mkdir, then cd, then cp, and then rm the old files. But I realized there was a simpler way that would limit the lines of code needed.
Were there any challenges? If so, what issue(s) did you face? How did you overcome it?
I think my main challenges were trying to make sure that I captured all files with specific strings in them. I initially used a wildcard (*) only on the end of the file name, but I realized it was better to use it for both the beginning of the file name and end. My other challenge was that I initially thought I had no merge conflicts, because everything looked good on the Autograder and I had no prompts when I merged my coworker's changes. However, after just looking into my assignment_script.sh, I found that my coworker added a command (rf) that didn't exist. To resolve this, I just deleted it in VS code and pushed this commit.
How were these changes tested?
I tested my changes using Zsh within the Terminal in VS code, but also using Apple's Terminal application. I mainly used a combination of git status, git log --oneline, ls and cat to see if my changes were working. I also checked my folders in Finder to verify if files were moved properly.
