Recent Opened Files Not Remembered #6061

Steps to reproduce
- Open a file A.txt
- Choose "设置"→"默认文件夹"→"设置为当前文件的文件夹"
- Close the file.
- Open a file from another place named B.txt
- Close the file.
- Try opening the third file
Expected behavior
As I've used from competitors (like Notepad4, Notepad++), it should follow where B.txt is placed and open a file there.
Actual behavior
While Notepad3 remembered where A.txt was placed and open a file from that folder.

- I searched existing issues and this is not a duplicate.
- I can reproduce this on a clean install (or a fresh INI via
Notepad3 /i), not only with my customized config. - If attaching
Notepad3.ini: I've reviewed it for sensitive entries ([Recent Files],[Recent Find],[Recent Replace],Favorites=,DefaultDirectory=) and redacted what I don't want to share publicly.

This is intended behaviour introduced with issue #5614 - choosing a default directory (your step 2.) defines that files directory to be the default.

To experience expected behaviour, do a
Menu -> Settings -> Default Directory -> Reset to Default(Use Version with PR #6064) .hTp34r commentedon Oct 25, 2026
thanks for your quick fix! now when not setting default directory, even after creating a new file, opening a new file will also remember the last file's location

Feel free to test the "BETA PortableApps", "Notepad3Portable_7.26.1025.1_beta.paf.exe" -s or newer, see 1st list in issue #1129.
Also, feel free to test the "BETA Setup", "Notepad3_7.26.1025.1_beta_x64_Setup.7z" -s or newer, see 2nd list in issue #1129.
