Add Python 3.15 support #757

Open

Description

@eavanvalkenburg

Request

Please add support for CPython 3.15 and publish a RedisVL release without the current <3.15 Requires-Python cap.

Current behavior

Python 3.15.0 is now final. RedisVL 0.28.0 and the other recent releases declare Requires-Python >=3.10,<3.15, so pip rejects installation:

$ python3.15 -m pip install redisvl==0.28.0
ERROR: Ignored the following versions that require a different python version: ... 0.28.0 Requires-Python >=3.10,<3.15
ERROR: No matching distribution found for redisvl==0.28.0

Compatibility signal

For compatibility investigation, I installed RedisVL while bypassing the metadata restriction. RedisVL imported successfully, and the complete non-integration test suite for Microsoft Agent Framework's Redis integration passed on Python 3.15.0. That suggests the remaining work may primarily be CI validation and packaging metadata, subject to RedisVL's own test coverage.

It would be helpful to add Python 3.15 to CI/classifiers and remove the upper Python bound once validated.

    Thanks for the report and the compatibility check. Python 3.15 support is in progress in #768. It lifts the version cap and adds 3.15 to CI, and RedisVL itself needed no code changes.

    A few things are outside that PR, because they depend on other projects or are separate work:

    • sentence-transformers and all extras: these can't be installed on 3.15 until PyTorch publishes 3.15 wheels on PyPI. Everything else installs, and the HuggingFace tests skip on 3.15 until then.
    • voyageai and sql-redis extras: both packages currently declare a Python upper bound below 3.15, so pip refuses them. That needs a fix in those packages. uv installs them anyway.
    • Test tooling: our pinned pytest-asyncio relies on asyncio APIs that Python 3.16 removes. We'll update it separately before then.
