Opencharm

Your new favorite open-source agentic companion.
OpenCharm: three printed charms that blink and glance, beside the line Meet your agentic companion

Give your agent a body

OpenCharm is a small open-source companion that becomes the face and voice
of the AI agent you already run. Hold one key to talk, glance at it to see what your agent is doing.

Your agent can already write code, answer questions and remember what you told it. What it doesn't have is a place in the room. OpenCharm gives it one: two eyes and a mouth you can read from across the desk, a voice, and one key. It comes in two bodies with the same face: the desktop charm by your Mac's notch, and a small board you build. It doesn't replace your agent, your phone or your apps. One agent at a time, and the agent stays yours.

A face by your notch

On your Mac, the charm lives by the notch. Its face shows what your agent is doing, and a line under it says the rest.

See what your agent is doing, without asking

The charm listens to your agent's events and turns each one into a face: thinking, working, done, learned something, asleep. A face is two characters for eyes and one for a mouth, like ^ ^, o O or > <, so anyone can write a new one and share it as text.

Hold one key and talk

Hold ⌥ Space from any app, say what you need, let go. The microphone is on only while the key is down, and the answer comes back out loud.

Orange means it needs you

When your agent asks before it acts, the face turns to a question with an orange ring. Hold for yes, press for no. Orange appears on the screen for nothing else.

Bring the agent you already run

Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, goose, Hermes Agent, OpenClaw, any ACP agent or anything OpenAI-compatible. The charm holds no API keys and runs no model: your agent runs on your machine, as it does today.

Six charms, one per agent: Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, goose, Hermes and OpenClaw

Tested end to end with Claude Code. The presets for the others are covered by tests with a stand-in agent, not yet each tried for real.

A body you can hold

The same face on a small board that sits by your laptop: a ready-made Waveshare board in its own case, speaker included, for about $32 of hardware (September 2026 prices). It runs OpenCharm OS, flashed from the repo. A shell you print in any colour, to hang it from your keys, is designed and still being tested. We sell nothing and ship nothing: you build your own from the open files.

Get started

The desktop charm (macOS). Download it from the latest release, choose your agent's folder in Settings, then hold ⌥ Space and talk. A Windows build is there too, untested on a real machine.

The board. What to buy, how to flash OpenCharm OS onto it and how to add it from the desktop charm are in the build guide.

From the terminal. The CLI sets up a charm workspace for the coding agent you use:

npm i -g opencharm
opencharm init my-charm && cd my-charm
opencharm serve
