Description

Protective prerequisite for stack #759: the planning-child receipt passes planned reconciliation but is correctly rejected by the frozen Code Review provider as non-final execution proof. Authenticate and transport the genuine exact-root final artifact while retaining full inherited review against protected dev, complete provider validation and every required gate.

Related: #760. OpenSpec: fix-planning-review-proof-context. Coherent bugfix version: 0.55.9. No merge is authorized; #719/#743/#751 remain unmerged.

Contract-First Testing Evidence

Signed specification precedes corrected signed authored head 908bc3ad40f318e58e3596960be05335058f440e. Genuine native RED run38314212556/artifact11776331094 reproduces two finalized-proof failures after the ordinary positive control passes; zero errors/skips/findings. Superseded run38313685016 failed a trusted-core import and is excluded from behavioral proof. Owner djm81 accepted canonical mapping sha256:a0ec5078fe769838f653c4069b0cd5752b46a5d8038fcbb132564d38f7a85c5e and authorized verified exact-head grants.

Ordinary approved RED/legacy final contexts remain accepted. Synthetic boundary fixtures are test inputs, never published execution proof. Authored test SHA256 0af9e8a14160498124e115e79ff0426291d32ee8eb5e54311b2101dea88318fd remains unchanged through the current head.

How Has This Been Tested?

Current signed head a692169a36f534c81cadff65ec42c0945a25e3e0 documents ten helper validation boundaries. Executable AST excluding docstrings is unchanged; all13 helper functions have docstrings. It corrects the real55.56% docstring warning without changing the80% threshold. CodeRabbit genuinely completed the preceding364dd781 review with no new actionable comments and zero unresolved threads; CodeRabbit completed current-head review at23:17:45UTC on2026-10-12, with no actionable comments and zero unresolved threads. Hosted docstring coverage now passes92.59% against the unchanged80% threshold.

The complete local suite passes:3314 tests, nine skips, zero failures/errors in197.049s; all787 tracked inputs match the validated candidate snapshot. One previously skipped version-matches-HEAD check now runs and passes. Format/lint/YAML/contracts and frozen local helper/test review pass with zero findings. Canonical typing remains zero errors/1522 protected-baseline warnings. Normal signed hooks and literal-current-head retained-RED provenance pass. Existing frozen delivery/version/audit/trust/license/signature/security inputs and required policies remain intact; hosted gates run again on this exact head.

Actual root archive11773232592/run38306990823 matches its genuine service digest and passes both transport integrity and the frozen provider final-context reader, preserving root57f51829/report bytes. This local compatibility probe does not replace native child proof. Fixed argv, literal executable/hostname and internal repository/numeric routes refute the tool's shell-injection warning; independent security gates remain required.

Historical native final run38316675410/artifact11777665252 and all required CI passed at364dd781. Current-head producer/execution/final all pass in run38321075799. Final artifact11778328718 verifies service digest6fc3d56cffaddc91abd3f4e817f27b20a7c14e897331ce5342033794cd4f8c66, exact sourceRef/final stage, verified/pass/no proof findings and two passing controls. Authority run38321075557 passes its normal second attempt after verified djm81 grant6134427051. All13 effective required checks pass with exact expected integration IDs; all43 checks have37 success/six existing configured skips. All six PR commit signatures verify; GitHub reports CLEAN/MERGEABLE. Current-head CodeRabbit review is completed and the docstring check passes. Separate merge authorization remains required. Three unchanged promotion-fixture advisories retain their explicit protected-baseline exception in TDD evidence; no new findings or suppressions are accepted.

Checklist

  • Signed specification and accepted security controls
  • Corrected genuine native authored RED retained
  • Unchanged-test signed correction and literal-head provenance
  • Complete local suite, local review and normal hooks
  • Current-head native final proof and exact-head authority
  • All required current-head CI
  • Completed current-head review and corrected docstring check
  • Separate owner merge approval

Risks and rollback

Fail closed on changed live lineage, stale checks, foreign/corrupted artifacts and incomplete final proof. Retain protected helper trust, immutable provider pins, complete review scope and all authority/signature/execution checks. Rollback restores captured signed364dd781 using an exact lease; backup branch codex/backup-planning-review-364 and coherent dependency/version artifacts are retained.

🔀 Multi-repo context nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules

Linked repositories findings

nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules

  • The companion repository’s requirements-evidence workflow independently runs scripts/requirements_evidence_gate.py with module-local sources and only installs the paired core CLI editable; it does not reference requirements_review_context.py or PLANNING_BASE_COMMIT. [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::] .github/workflows/requirements-evidence.yml:47-85
  • Workflow contract tests explicitly require this module-local adapter and paired-core setup, so the core PR’s new helper is not automatically exercised by this repository’s requirements-evidence CI. [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::] tests/unit/workflows/test_requirements_evidence_workflow.py:45-59
  • The code-review bundle declares compatibility with specfact-cli >=0.55.1,<1.0.0, which includes core version 0.55.9; no module manifest or signature update appears required solely for this core-only change. [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::] packages/specfact-code-review/module-package.yaml:41-47
  • Local module development still pins specfact-cli==0.55.4, while CI explicitly installs the paired core checkout. This is an existing version/validation split to keep in mind when validating the new core workflow behavior. [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::] pyproject.toml:21-30, .github/workflows/requirements-evidence.yml:63-70
🔇 Additional comments (1)
scripts/requirements_review_context.py (1)

167-169: Skip the static-analysis command-injection hint.

The command is a fixed argument list with no shell, and --hostname github.com is fixed. path is built from the constants REPOSITORY and MAX_ARTIFACT_PAGES, the integer run_id, and the validated integer artifact id. No unvalidated request text reaches the command, so the CWE-78 finding is a false positive. Both calls also set timeout=30, which meets the retrieved learning on subprocess timeouts.

📝 Summary

Summary

  • Adds scripts/requirements_review_context.py to authenticate and retrieve exact-root finalized Requirements evidence for inherited planning-child reviews.
  • Updates producer, execution-review, and final-review workflow paths to use this authenticated root evidence when PLANNING_BASE_COMMIT is set. It keeps child planning receipts separate from execution proof and retains protected-base review scope.
  • Updates OpenSpec delivery evidence and task status for fix-planning-review-proof-context. Final native proof, required CI, completed current-head review, and separate merge approval remain pending.

User-visible behavior and CLI surface

  • No SpecFact CLI commands, options, or defaults change.
  • The new helper is an internal workflow script. It reauthenticates live context, selects the unique root Requirements evidence artifact, and rejects invalid provenance, identity, expiry, digest, archive, or report data.
  • The workflow supplies the authenticated root report as review evidence for inherited planning context. The immutable provider retains finalized-proof validation.

Contract and API impact

  • No public functions, Pydantic models, or package boundaries are reported as changed. The helper adds internal constants and type aliases.
  • OpenSpec change fix-planning-review-proof-context is referenced by the updated evidence and tasks. The supplied commit file list does not include the proposed specification files or openspec/CHANGE_ORDER.md.
  • The helper validates transport and report identity. The immutable provider remains responsible for full proof, plan, and selector validation.

Testing and quality gates

  • The updated TDD_EVIDENCE.md reports local full-suite results of 3313 passed, 10 skipped, and zero failures or errors. It also reports local controls, contracts, audits, and other quality checks.
  • These are recorded evidence claims, not independently run results in this summary. Final native execution, required CI, and completed current-head review remain pending.
  • No result is supplied for hatch run contract-test or coverage. Merge authorization remains pending.

Maintainer notes

  • CHANGELOG.md records the security and proof-separation changes. Package versions change from 0.55.8 to 0.55.9 in project metadata and package version files; uv.lock is also updated.
  • The evidence states that no signed module asset changed.
  • The helper fails closed on invalid or incomplete root context. The workflow continues to require protected review scope and existing authority, signature, and execution gates.

Walkthrough

The workflow now authenticates finalized root Requirements evidence for inherited Code Review on planning children. It preserves protected-dev review scope and keeps child planning receipts separate from execution proof. Tests cover valid evidence and rejection cases.

@coderabbitai review

Please review the current signed implementation head c898c7a. The authored RED and exact mapping acceptance are retained; all protected review, proof, authority and execution gates remain required.

The isolated hosted launcher must import the explicit trusted core;
ordinary positive controls must pass before native RED is credible.
Retain the accepted mapping and repeat genuine RED before delivery.

Linked repositories findings

nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules

  • The current Code Review module exposes only --requirements-evidence; it accepts finalized schema-v2 proof and stores limited provenance without affecting the review verdict. [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::] (docs/bundles/code-review/run.md:62,83-99; packages/specfact-code-review/src/specfact_code_review/review/commands.py:338-342)
  • Its reader explicitly rejects schema versions other than 2, and tests reject schema 3. Any implementation of the proposed planning-review-context flow must preserve this legacy path or update the module contract and tests. [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::] (packages/specfact-code-review/src/specfact_code_review/run/commands.py:990-1017; tests/unit/specfact_code_review/run/test_commands.py:673-695)
  • The Code Review bundle is version 0.51.2 and depends on the Requirements bundle. If implementation changes this bundled CLI or proof contract, the manifest/version and module checksum/signature verification workflow will require synchronization. [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::] (packages/specfact-code-review/module-package.yaml:1-11; .github/pull_request_template.md:21-23,44-45)
  • The companion repository’s active R07 spec states that the newer proof-context correction is unimplemented and shipped behavior remains unchanged, so this planning-only PR does not have an existing companion implementation to consume yet. [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::] (openspec/changes/requirements-07-scenario-runtime-proof/specs/requirements-proof-review-context/spec.md:1-9)

receipts. Retain full protected-base review, immutable provider proof
validation and all authority, signature and execution gates.

🔀 Multi-repo context nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules

Linked repositories findings

nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules

  • The shipped Code Review reader only accepts finalized Requirements evidence with schema_version == "2" and rejects schema 3 before review execution (packages/specfact-code-review/src/specfact_code_review/run/commands.py:990-1005; tests at tests/unit/specfact_code_review/run/test_commands.py:673-695). [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::]
  • The companion documentation also defines --requirements-evidence as a schema-v2 contract (docs/bundles/code-review/run.md:62,83-99). Any artifact produced by this PR’s new context flow must remain schema v2, or the bundled Code Review module requires a coordinated contract/version update. [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::]
  • The companion’s planning spec explicitly says the newer proof-context correction is unimplemented and shipped behavior is unchanged (openspec/changes/requirements-07-scenario-runtime-proof/specs/requirements-proof-review-context/spec.md:1-9). No requirements_review_context implementation or reference was found in this repository. [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::]

81-86: 🔒 Security & Privacy

The claim is refuted. _verified_run already validates the inherited run against the workflow definition, including path, event, status, and conclusion. The Requirements Evidence workflow is included in that definition, so no additional fetch or checks are required.

1983-1988: 🩺 Stability & Availability

The claim is undecidable from the available evidence because the workflow revision and helper presence could not be inspected.

94-95: 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration

The repository now shows that requirements_review_context.py enforces schema_version == "2" before returning an artifact, and the security tests invoke the shipped Code Review reader. However, those tests use synthetic artifacts. The evidence still does not connect artifact 11773232592 to that reader path, so the concern remains undecidable rather than a demonstrated schema failure.

@coderabbitai review

Please verify the current signed head 364dd78 after the documentation-only line wrapping. All787 source/test/delivery inputs and all words in the TDD document are unchanged from reviewed implementation2f1deb3e. Both prior findings are marked addressed. Current native producer/execution/final proof, all required CI and exact-head authority pass. The automatic current-head status says review rate limited; that is not being represented as a completed extra review.
