feat: give the lite mobile app's web view a session from its device - #1510
The lite mobile app can't sign in on production yet. This is the site's half: once the app has a device, a signed request gives its web view a session, and that session ends with the device. The app's half comes in a later PR, so nothing calls this yet. Browsers and the other apps see no change.
Changes
Web session:POST /api/v1/me/web-session, signed by the device, answers with session cookies that the app copies into its web view. It also says whether the user is onboarded, so the app knows what to load first. There's no redemption route a browser could be sent to, and no remember cookie, because the app makes a new session when one ends. Only a device approved under the lite app's id can ask, and it doesn't count as seeing the user, since the next page load does.
Revocation: a web session holds its device's id, and ends once that device is gone or belongs to someone else, because approving a key for another account reuses the row. It runs before auth, and only ends that session, not the remember cookies of the user's browsers.
Sign-out: signing out of such a session deletes its device, or the app would make a new session right away.
Onboarding: a new account approving the lite app returns to the approval page and onboards in the web view afterwards. Everyone else keeps onboarding in the browser, including people approving the other apps, which have nowhere else to send them.
Bridge: in the app only, the site asks the native side to renew when a page renders signed out, or when the site refuses a request with a 401 or 419. The page passes nothing and sees no answer. Builds without the plugin ignore it.
Limitations
Not run against the app, because its half doesn't exist yet, and not in a browser. Only the check on refused responses has unit tests, not the listeners around it.
The lite app id is what a client declares when the user approves it, so it keeps other apps out by default rather than proving which app is asking.
The app's own sign-in requests, such as redeeming its code, count as other_app in the app usage metrics until the lite app gets its column.
Signing in needs a security review before it reaches production, along with the app's half.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added secure session bridging for the Lite mobile app, including automatic renewal when sessions expire.
Signing out removes the current device from the account. Web sessions also end when their associated device is no longer registered.
Users can proceed directly to Lite mobile authorization when it is their intended destination; other onboarding redirects remain unchanged.
Bug Fixes
Improved handling of expired or refused sessions, while avoiding renewal for unrelated origins.
This change adds a signed API endpoint for Lite Mobile apps to create web sessions. It associates sessions with devices, ends sessions when device ownership no longer matches, and asks the mobile client to renew when it detects an expired session.

Create a device-backed web session app/Dto/MobileAuthorization.php, app/Http/Requests/CreateApiWebSessionRequest.php, app/Http/Controllers/Api/WebSessionController.php, routes/api.php, tests/Feature/Controllers/Api/WebSessionControllerTest.php
The request authorizes devices with the Lite Mobile app ID. The signed route creates a web session, stores the device ID, and returns onboarding status. Tests cover authorization, session data, and rejected requests.
Tie web-session lifecycle to device ownership app/Models/Device.php, app/Http/Controllers/SessionController.php, app/Http/Middleware/EndSessionsOfRevokedDevices.php, bootstrap/app.php, tests/Feature/Controllers/SessionControllerTest.php, tests/Unit/Middleware/EndSessionsOfRevokedDevicesTest.php
Sign-in allows an un-onboarded user to continue to a Lite Mobile authorization URL when that URL is the intended destination. Logout deletes the session device when it belongs to the user. Middleware ends a session when its device is no longer associated with the user.

The client identifies same-origin 401 and 419 responses. If the Capacitor Session plugin is available, it requests renewal for qualifying Inertia events and fetch responses.

Merge Risk: Low · up to 4006c
The new Lite Mobile web-session endpoint has no test confirming that its cookie works on a normal web page. Nothing calls the endpoint yet, so the risk is small, but the author should verify the full flow before the app-side change ships.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 4006c
The new sign-in path checks device approval and ownership, and revoked devices lose their associated web sessions. A low-severity issue remains: replacing the web identity preserves existing session data. End-to-end cookie replacement and renewal behavior also remain unverified until the mobile implementation is available.
Retained concerns
Low · security · observed: The new signed login can replace a web-session identity without clearing the previous session's auxiliary state. Regeneration changes the session identifier but preserves keys such as url.intended and push_endpoint_hash. This repeats an existing browser-login pattern at a new authentication boundary, allowing stale session state to influence processing under the replacement identity. User-scoped push deletion limits the demonstrated impact.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The new credential-conversion authority is bounded to the approved signing device's user. The retained-state path additionally requires an existing session to reach issuance. The examined effects concern that session's navigation and push-cleanup state; the trace does not establish arbitrary-account access.
Security Findings and Attack Paths
observed — The retained low-severity finding concerns session-state carryover: an existing cookie-backed session reaches signed login, authentication and device identity are replaced, but auxiliary keys survive. Onboarding consumes the retained intended URL, while logout reads the retained push endpoint hash. Push deletion remains constrained to the current user, materially limiting the cleanup consequence.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Unsigned or unapproved requests cannot use the new endpoint, banned users are rejected, and other app IDs fail request authorization. Continued access checks both device ID and user ownership rather than device existence alone. Renewal response filtering accepts only same-origin 401 or 419 responses.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — Logout deliberately revokes the session's owned device before invalidating the web session, preventing that credential from immediately renewing access. Reapproval is therefore required. Revocation middleware instead ends only the current session and preserves the user's other browser remember tokens; inspected tests cover deletion, ownership mismatch, and unbound sessions.
Hardening Proposals
proposed — Define an explicit session-data reset or narrowly justified preservation policy for signed identity replacement. Validate that policy with pre-existing cookies and cross-account session state before enabling the native integration.
