  • During an outage, the tooltip, Copy, and screen readers say whether your router still answers: "Your router is fine; the problem is past it" or "Your router isn't answering". Before the first reply or timeout: "Checking your router…".
  • Many routers ignore ping, so a router is only blamed once it has answered one since the app started. Until then: "Can't tell if it's your router; it hasn't answered a ping yet". Routers are matched by IPv4 and hardware address, so a café's router doesn't count as answering because the one at home did.
  • The router is only pinged while replies are missing, from a second before the clock until they come back, one ping at a time per address. Nothing extra is sent on a healthy connection or on a network that blocks ping.
  • With a VPN, it checks the router of the network the VPN runs over. If that could be either of two networks, there's no router, or the address being pinged is the router, no line is added.

Release notes: the widget now pings your router during outages. There's no setting for it.

- Add RouterCheck, which pings the gateway while internet pings fail, one at a time per address
- Add a router line to the latency tooltip, Copy and screen reader text while the clock is up
- Only call a router down once it has answered a ping, matched by IPv4 and hardware address
- With a VPN, check the router of the network underneath; skip it if there could be two
- Skip the check when there's no gateway or the ping address is the router
