Summary

  • Enable opt-level = 3, thin LTO, and a single codegen unit for release builds.
  • Add a performance validation guide covering reproducible QEMU boot measurements, binary size, and future kernel benchmarks.

Why

This gives Rustalis an explicit optimized release profile without changing the development profile, while documenting how to validate actual boot/runtime improvements instead of assuming compiler flags guarantee a speedup.

Validation

  • cargo fmt --all -- --check
  • cargo check --workspace
  • cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets -- -D warnings
  • cargo test --workspace
  • cargo build --release
  • Compare repeated QEMU boot measurements against a baseline

No performance numbers are claimed yet; CI and benchmark runs should confirm the change before making quantitative claims.
