The sync job failed when fetching project items returned HTTP 504. The client aborted immediately without retrying.

• Recovery: Retry read queries on HTTP 502/503/504 up to three times, with 1s/2s/4s backoff. Preserve the final error if retries fail.
• Query load: Reduce item pages from 100 to 50 while preserving cursor-based pagination.
• Write safety: Never replay mutations; a timed-out write may already have succeeded.
• Regression coverage: Cover retries, exhaustion, permanent errors, mutation safety, and pagination recovery.
