Second part of the wardrobe (client side of server#239), on top of #26.
Avatar decoration, profile frame and nickname style are now drawn on
the profile popover, the settings card, message authors, member list
rows and the user bar, from ArgonUserProfile.cosmetics.

  • renderers: ImageLayer (avatar decoration, above or beneath the face
    in its own stacking context), FrameAssembly (profile frame),
    TextStyle (nickname: font, colours via color-mix, effects composed
    with a seamless travelling gradient, reduced motion)
  • CosmeticSurface / CosmeticNickname draw what resolves on a surface;
    truncating hosts clip with a margin so a glow keeps its halo
  • useCosmeticFit: frame insets/outsets and the sides a frame covers;
    the popover hides only those borders
  • useProfileStatus: member rows read status and cosmetics through the
    existing batched queue and re-ask on a profile cache revision bump;
    message authors ask with the message's own space
  • useWornProfile: your own look comes from meProfile, so an equip
    shows at once
  • popovers no longer clip the frame's overhang and keep collision
    padding through the exit animation; the card's glow stays as before
  • the cosmetics store is imported statically: avatars on the boot
    path need it anyway

Browser tests in test/browser/cosmetics cover the layout and paint.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Avatars, profile cards, member lists, and message authors can now display equipped cosmetic decorations and styled names.
    • Profile card frames reserve space for their edges, while popovers allow decorations to extend beyond the card.
    • Cosmetic text treatments support colors, gradients, fonts, shimmer, and reduced-motion preferences.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved clipping and layering so decorations, status indicators, and styled names display cleanly without disrupting layouts.

📝 Walkthrough

The change adds cosmetic rendering for avatars, nicknames, and profile cards. New composables resolve worn profiles, load profile status, and calculate cosmetic spacing. Components use these results to render decorations and text styles, adjust card layouts, and reserve popover room. Tests cover rendering, layout, and profile lookup.

Passes worn profiles to avatar and nickname renderers. Message and row components request profile data under specified conditions. Popovers use cosmetic overhang for collision padding and retain measured room while closing.
Frames in profile cards and previews
src/components/popovers/UserProfilePopover.vue, src/components/settings/ProfileCardPreview.vue, src/components/settings/ProfileSettings.vue, src/lib/profileCustomization.ts, test/browser/cosmetics/ProfileCardLayout.test.ts, test/lib/shadeArgb.test.ts
Adds profile-card frames and styled names to popovers and previews. Frame measurements adjust spacing and border edges. The settings preview receives the current profile. Adds ARGB shading and layout tests.

The test suite currently fails because message tests mount MessageItem without Pinia, and CI will stay red until that is fixed. A transient font load failure also leaves cosmetic names on the fallback font for the rest of the session. Fix the test setup before merging; the font retry is a small follow-up.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Fix the CI failure: MessageItem now needs an active Pinia.

useCosmeticsDrawnOn calls useCosmeticsStore() while the component is being set up. MessageItem.vue:951 calls this composable. test/browser/MessageEmoji.test.ts mounts MessageItem without an active Pinia, so all eight tests fail with getActivePinia() was called but there was no active Pinia.

Use one of these fixes:

  • Install Pinia in MessageEmoji.test.ts. For example, call setActivePinia(createPinia()) or add global.plugins: [createPinia()] to the mount options.
  • Mock @/store/features/cosmeticsStore in that test, as the other tests mock their stores.

Review comment at @src/composables/useCosmeticsDrawnOn.ts at line 12:
Update the MessageEmoji.test.ts setup for MessageItem mounts to provide an
active Pinia, using the existing test-store setup pattern or registering a Pinia
plugin, so useCosmeticsDrawnOn can call useCosmeticsStore without failing.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Allow a failed typeface load to retry.

Line 77 adds fileId to registeredFaces before face.load() finishes. If the load fails, for example because of a transient network error, the .catch only logs the error. The set still contains the id, so no later mount tries to load the face again for the rest of the session. Every name that uses this font then shows the fallback face. Remove the id from the set when the load fails.

Proposed fix
     face.load()
       .then(loaded => document.fonts.add(loaded))
-      .catch(error => logger.warn("A cosmetic typeface could not be loaded", chosen.slug, error));
+      .catch(error => {
+        registeredFaces.delete(fileId);
+        logger.warn("A cosmetic typeface could not be loaded", chosen.slug, error);
+      });

85:
Update the face.load() failure handler in the typeface registration flow to
delete fileId from registeredFaces before logging, allowing a later mount to
retry the load.

MessageItem now reads the cosmetics store and the profile cache for its
author's look. MessageEmoji mounted it without an active Pinia, and
MessageItemExpressions' dexie stub lacked what the profile cache's
imports pull in. Both mock the two stores, as they already do for the
others: with no kind enabled, an author is neither asked for nor dressed.
