IEquipResult permits both SuccessEquip(profile) and FailedEquip(NOT_FOUND), and the API exposes independent Equip and Unequip requests. If an earlier Unequip response settles after a newer Equip response, both calls pass the session generation check. unequip then calls forgetWornKind, which removes the newly equipped entry from me.meProfile and the profile cache.
