Adjust threading behavior when --ncores > 1 - #258

Each worker process in the multi-CPU pool used as many PyTorch threads as a single process would, so --ncores N ran N times as many threads as there are cores, and was slower than --ncores 1. A pool initializer now divides the default thread count by the number of workers. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
this fix allows tests to pass.
