About

I'm a software engineer by trade, and the code I love lives outside office hours: Rust for backends and systems work, Svelte for the frontends. Most of it is small, fast, and does exactly one job.

I like tools that start in milliseconds, stay out of your way, and tell you plainly when something is wrong. When the existing options for something disappoint me long enough, I write my own, which is how ghpulse happened. The chart above is one of its renders.

Right now a lot of my time goes to coding agents and how to run them well: bailey sandboxes them, errand drives them from a chat channel, and demur reviews what they write.

Projects

soar A fast, modern, distro-independent package manager. I maintain it.
zenity-rs Simple GUI dialogs from the command line, as a Rust crate.
onelf Pack entire directories into self-contained executables.
awsim A fully offline, free AWS development environment.
ghpulse GitHub activity as generative SVG art. It drew the chart above.

What I enjoy

  • Small, fast binaries. Programs that start in single-digit milliseconds, do one thing, and exit without asking anything of you.
  • Terminals. The last interface that never tried to redesign itself into a worse version every eighteen months.
  • Scratching my own itches. When existing tools disappoint me long enough, I write the replacement myself.
  • Systems that fail loudly. A program that refuses to start beats one that quietly does the wrong thing for six weeks.
  • Rust. The compiler asks hard questions up front so the runtime doesn't have to. My default for anything that matters.
