feat(radio): internet radio stations, one list per account - #258
Conversation
`getInternetRadioStations` had answered an empty container since the facade existed, and it was the one absence here a client could not read as an absence: every other missing feature declares a role `false`, so the button is never offered, while "zero stations" is also exactly what a server without radio says. The protocol leaves no other way to say it. A dated `radio_station` table, one row per station and per account, with tenancy in every statement. The getter reads it and `createInternetRadioStation`, `updateInternetRadioStation` and `deleteInternetRadioStation` write it, each answering the bare envelope the specification documents. `/api/v2/radio-stations` carries the same list for the web client, and a Radio page manages it. **The question the issue asked to settle first — proxy the stream or hand the address over — is settled as hand it over.** The address is validated as absolute `http` or `https`, stored as typed and never fetched. A server that dereferenced a user-supplied URL would be a request forger aimed at whatever it can reach from the inside, so refusing that role is what leaves this feature with no allowlist, no timeout and no egress policy to get wrong. The visible cost is honest and named in the interface: a clear-text station cannot play on an HTTPS page, because the browser blocks mixed content, and the page says so before the address is saved rather than after it fails. **Two deviations from the reference server, both deliberate.** The list is per account where the reference keeps one global list only an administrator may change — WaveFlow has no global library setting of any kind, and a per-account list needs no new privilege to be safe, so a foreign station id is error 70 like every other foreign id. And `homePageUrl` is returned with a capital `P` while `homepageUrl` sets it, which is the specification's own asymmetry, copied rather than corrected. **The JSON trap #215 found waited here as well.** `json_array_field` is an allowlist, so `internetRadioStations.internetRadioStation` had never been declared a collection — a container that has never held anything cannot have been noticed. It is declared, and asserted at exactly one child, the only length that tells an array from an object. Removing the declaration makes that assertion fail; measured. Stations are account configuration rather than playback state, so they sit beside the API tokens and the scrobbling links and are **not** in the sync journal: `sync_event.entity_type` is CHECK-constrained, and admitting a new one is a contract change the desktop client has to be ready for. Also fixed on the way past: the Subsonic guide still listed `getTopSongs` among the methods returning an empty container, which #215 had stopped being true. Measured by inversion rather than assumed, each separately: the array declaration, the `homePageUrl` spelling, the tenancy in the update and the delete, the `COLLATE NOCASE` in the ordering, the scheme restriction, the per-account ceiling, the preserved `created_at`, and the replace-not-patch semantics the client depends on. Two of those inversions changed nothing at first and the tests were rewritten until they bit: `file:` and `data:` addresses are refused for carrying no host, so only `mms://` proves the scheme list, and comparing `created_at` across a replacement needed a backdated row because `now_ms()` can answer twice in one millisecond. A Subsonic client clearing the station page sends `homepageUrl=` with no
value, which arrived as `Some("")` and was refused as an invalid URL — error
10 where the sender meant "this station has no page". The native surface had
the same hole for `"homepage_url": """, and only the web client was spared,
because it already converts an empty box to `null`.
Fixed in the service rather than at either door, so the rule has one spelling:
a homepage that trims to nothing is `None`. The stream address is required and
gets no such reading, so an empty `streamUrl` stays invalid — asserted, since
that is the half a careless fix would break.
Raised by CodeRabbit on this branch, verified against the code, and inverted:
removing the filter fails the unit test and the facade test both.

One audio element serves every station, so starting a second one replaces its `src` and stopping one pauses it — and both reject the pending `play()` of the attempt they replaced. That rejection lands *after* the new state is on screen, so the page showed `radio.playbackError" and a "Listen" button over a station that was playing perfectly well. Pressing stop during loading did the same, for a station nobody was waiting for any more. An attempt counter, bumped by every start, every stop and the effect that stands aside for the queue player, plus an `AbortError` that is read as the page obeying rather than a station failing. The decision is its own pure function so both halves can be asserted: removing either one fails the test. Raised by CodeRabbit on PR #258, verified against the two sequences it names. …g is read fresh Two stale reads of the same shape, both raised on PR #258 and both confirmed against the code. **The form.** `submit` reads `editing` and `draft` again after its `await`, so beginning to edit another station mid-save made the save clear a form the reader had just filled. Comparing the values afterwards would have fixed that one case; closing the form for the length of the write fixes it and the worse one beside it, which nothing had reported: a second click on `Add station` before the first answered created a **second station**, the server having no reason to refuse it. The two per-station writes close with it, so no edit can begin under a save. **The station playing.** `remove` decided whether to stop playback from `playing`, a render value, so deleting a station and then starting one during the round trip left a stream sounding with its stop button gone from the list — and switching stations during the round trip stopped the wrong one. Read from a ref now, which is the one piece of state that needs it: listening is not a write and stays available throughout, deliberately, because a reader waiting on a save has no reason to lose what they are hearing. Pinned by an e2e test against a 300ms POST, because against an instant answer a guarded form and an unguarded one are indistinguishable. Its own comment names which assertion does the work: the button line passes either way — an empty form disables it too — while the field assertions and the write count fail. The second click is dispatched with `force`, so what refuses it is the browser declining a disabled button rather than Playwright declining to try. Signed-off-by: InstaZDLL <github.105mh@8shield.net>

The double-press test timed the window with a 300ms delay, which is a race the slowest runner loses: the response can re-enable the fields before `toBeDisabled()` runs. Held open until the test lets it go instead — the pattern the two tests above it already use, through a module-level gate the mock awaits and `beforeEach` resets. It also made an assertion mean what it says. With a delay, the first line passed either way: an empty form disables that button too, so it retried until the save landed and cleared the fields. With the request held, the save cannot land, and removing the guard fails on that line. The comment saying which line distinguishes had to be rewritten with the fix, because the fix changed the answer. Raised by CodeRabbit on PR #258. Signed-off-by: InstaZDLL <github.105mh@8shield.net>
Closes #217. The last mission of the plan table (#206–#223), and the last empty container in the façade.
Why this one mattered more than its size
getInternetRadioStationshad answered{}since the façade existed. Every other absence here declares a rolefalse, so a client does not offer the button — but radio has no role, and "zero stations" is also exactly what a server without radio says. It was the one place the server's answer was thinner than it looked, and the protocol leaves no other way to say it.What it carries
radio_station, one row per station and per account,ON DELETE CASCADE, tenancy named in every statement./api/v2/radio-stations, withGET/POSTon the collection andGET/PUT/DELETEon a station. The decision the issue asked to settle first
It hands the URL over. The address is validated as absolute
httporhttps, stored as typed, and never fetched. A server that dereferenced a user-supplied URL would be a request forger aimed at whatever it can reach from the inside, and refusing that role is what leaves this feature with no allowlist, no timeout and no egress policy to get wrong. The cost is real and is named in the interface rather than hidden: a clear-text station cannot play on a page served over HTTPS, because the browser blocks mixed content and nothing the server could do changes that. The page says so before the address is saved, not after it silently fails.
Two deviations from the reference server, both deliberate
Both are recorded in
docs/subsonic-compatibility.mdfor the next client campaign.homePageUrlout,homepageUrlin. The specification spells the response attribute with a capitalPand the parameter without one. Copied rather than corrected, so a client that follows the document reads the field it set.The trap #215 found was waiting here
json_array_fieldis an allowlist, sointernetRadioStations.internetRadioStationhad never been declared a collection — a container that has never held anything cannot have been noticed. It is declared now, and asserted at exactly one child, which is the only length that tells an array from an object. Removing the declaration makes that assertion fail with the object in the message. Not in the sync journal, on purpose
Stations are account configuration rather than playback state, so they sit beside the API tokens and the scrobbling links.
sync_event.entity_typeis CHECK-constrained; admitting a new one is a contract change the desktop client has to be ready for, and nothing has asked for it. The native routes are taggedradiorather thanuser-datafor the same reason, so the operation-id protocol is neither advertised nor faked. One limit, stated rather than hidden
The page plays a station from its own audio element, and stops it when the page is left. The queue player assumes a track with a duration to seek in, an id to persist and something to scrobble, and a stream has none of the three; carrying radio into the player bar is a transport change, not a wiring change. The two never sound at once — starting a station pauses the catalogue player, and starting the catalogue player stops the station.
Measured by inversion, each separately
The array declaration, the
homePageUrlspelling, the tenancy in the update and in the delete, theCOLLATE NOCASEin the ordering, the scheme restriction, the per-account ceiling, the preservedcreated_at, and the replace-not-patch semantics the client depends on.Two of those inversions changed nothing at first, and the tests were rewritten until they bit:
file:anddata:addresses are refused for carrying no host, so widening the scheme list to admit them changed no verdict. Onlymms://— a scheme with an authority — proves the scheme restriction. Measured, which also showed the separate host check was unreachable forhttp/https: it is gone, with a note saying what would bring it back.created_atacross a replacement needed a backdated row, becausenow_ms()can answer twice inside one millisecond and the assertion would then pass against a service that re-stamped it.Review
One CodeRabbit finding, real and taken: a client clearing the station page sends
homepageUrl=with no value, which was refused as an invalid URL — error 10 where the sender meant "no page". Fixed in the service rather than at either door, so the rule has one spelling, with the required stream address explicitly kept outside it. Second round: no new findings. Also fixed on the way past
docs/subsonic-api-guide.mdstill listedgetTopSongsamong the methods returning an empty container, which #215 had stopped being true.Checks run locally
cargo fmt --check,cargo clippy --all-targets --all-features -D warnings, the whole Rust suite (19 targets),tsc --noEmit,biome check, 19 vitest files, and the full Playwright suite in both projects — 128 passed.
