Stacked on #97. GitHub retargets this to main once #97 merges.

Summary

Updates docs/plans/2026-10-23-opportunities-panel.md with the increment-2 bridge decision:

  • SDK selected: the official @modelcontextprotocol/ext-apps SDK (exact 2.0.3) sits behind a narrow bridge.mjs adapter. The adapter exposes named operations, not an unrestricted tool-call method. The SDK and all its dependencies are bundled locally, so there's no CDN or runtime loading.
  • Build: build.py is replaced by build.mjs (esbuild). package.json and package-lock.json pin exact versions, and CI gains an npm ci step before build.mjs --check.
  • Engine bundle budget: measured SDK bundles (455–601 KB of JS) exceed the 256,000-byte ceiling. The plan proposes 1 MiB for the complete HTML file. This is a pending cross-repository change: discovery-engine has to land it before the panel can be pinned.
  • Increments: increment 2 now includes an early Claude Desktop integration check. Fixtures now cover the boundary between REST {data, error} envelopes and MCP structuredContent. Hand-back acceptance is now conditional on Q4.

Test plan

  • Review the plan text. This PR changes docs only, so there's no code to test.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Record the decision to build the panel's bridge on the official
@modelcontextprotocol/ext-apps SDK (exact 2.0.3) behind a narrow
bridge.mjs adapter, bundled locally with a locked dependency tree and a
build.mjs (esbuild) in place of build.py.

Measured SDK bundles exceed the engine's 256,000-byte ceiling, so the
plan proposes a 1 MiB limit as a pending cross-repository contract change
that discovery-engine must land before the panel is pinned. Increment 2
now includes an early Claude Desktop integration check, and the fixtures
cover the REST-envelope vs MCP structuredContent boundary.
