Part of #718.

The rational integrator (RothsteinTrager) read a denominator of degree twelve at most. Rubi's 1.3.1 writes derivatives as sums of quotients over different powers of x^4 + x + 3, which come to degree sixteen. Master spent seconds on those and then declined.

  • IntegrateAHighDegree reads a denominator up to degree 24, for one past twelve only. Hermite's reduction takes the rational part; what it leaves for the logarithms is still held to twelve.
  • SolveAHighDegreeRationalFunctionByHermite writes the sum over the LCM of its denominators and asks that, right after SolveByWritingEachLinearOnce. It applies to numeric coefficients only, and only at the question asked.
  • Below a substitution the old limit of twelve stands. The first version read past it there too, and 1/(cos(x) + cos(3x))^5 under the half-angle tangent went from 0.5 s to a hang.

Measured

Pocket of 7,779 Rubi rows, 5 s per row, master 1fce7d8 against this branch on it:

master this branch
solved 7,692 7,694
wrong 0 0
timeout 22 21
Row Was Now
1.3.1:658 timeout 23 ms alone, 142 characters
1.3.1:659 timeout 3 ms alone, 142 characters

The one other move in the pocket, 1.3.1:568, is unsolved on both sides when rerun alone. Rows both arms solve take the same time: 984 s against 972 s on master over 7,692 rows. Families 0–8 are identical on both sides. Exact checks at 50–2000 digits pass 8 of 8 on each target. The gate passes, and the suite passes 15,390.

BREAKING-CHANGES.md records the two new answers.

A denominator up to the twenty-fourth degree is read, the squarefree part
Hermite leaves still held to the twelfth for the resultant; and such a
rational function with numbers for coefficients is asked before the
search, its terms over the least common multiple of their denominators.
